Does so-called girl power media culture accurately represent the plight of the modern woman? Are the hidden cultural contradictions and the strategic actions of various interested parties building pitfalls and barriers for young women across the country and the western world? This review evaluates the claims made by the author as she answers these questions and considers the importance of these discussions in the field of science, technology and society.
