About the Journal

The Stanford Journal of Health Equity and Community-Engaged Medicine is a peer-reviewed journal publishing scholarship on health equity and the care of underserved populations — disparities within hospitals and clinics, and the social and structural determinants of health in the communities they serve. The Journal considers original research (including community-based participatory research), review articles, clinical case reports, and Perspectives (argued, first-person scholarship, including service-learning and community-engagement reflections).

All content is published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license, with no author or reader fees; authors retain copyright of their work.

The Journal is published by the Stanford University Minority Medical Alliance (SUMMA) and was founded in 2026 by Saumya Sao, Natalia Zamora Zeledón, and founding Editor-in-Chief Sofia Gurgel.

The names and email addresses entered on this site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

The Journal intends to preserve its content through the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), a LOCKSS-based dark archive, upon reaching eligibility (an assigned ISSN and at least one published issue).
