Abstract

This paper concerns Queen Njinga, the 16th century ruler of present-day Angola, and the different ways she performed power. It argues that she was able to leverage various tools, including forces such as material wealth, tradition, religion, and masculinity, in order to both demonstrate and make manifest her power.
