Abstract

Religion and gaming addiction appear to be disparate subjects, but this paper examines the psychological connection that the two share. Reaching back as far as Genesis, a parallel can be drawn in the motivations of the first man and the modern man. In particular, Adam's desire for majesty, dignity, and collaboration align with the concepts of competence, autonomy, and relatedness in game design. This work serves to link two psychologically intriguing fields and to postulate that continued understanding of historical motivating factors will spur an increase in gaming engagement.
